The Story of Milwaukie's Tin Man mailbox

Woody of King Road tells me:

Woody of King Road tells me:

His mail box shown in the above three photos is designed after the Tin Man character in the movie "Wizard of Oz."  The Tin Man mail box is about 25 years old, according to Woody.

Woody of King Road tells me:

Woody says about 8 years ago a drunk driver hit and smashed into the Tin Man.  The driver fled the scene of the event on King.  But the Milwauie Police were able to track down the driver, because his car is leaking anti-freeze all the way home from the scene of the demolished the Tin Man.

Woody says the driver agreed to restore the mail box.  And this happens, with the help of Woody's next door neighbor.  Woody's next door neighbor on King just happens to do welding.  And the Tin Man is successfully restored.  The U.S Post Office did object to the mail box originally because it didn't have proper height.  But eventually USPS gave up and accepted the Tin Man just as he is.
